Why Government School Children Need Afterschool Support—Now More Than Ever

For millions of children studying in government schools across India, access to education is only the beginning. Staying in school, learning effectively, and building a future—that’s where the real challenge lies.

Many of these children come from families where parents are illiterate or have had little to no formal education. While they deeply value schooling, they are often unable to support their children academically at home. Homework goes unchecked, doubts remain unresolved, and over time, children begin to fall behind.

Private tuition—something many consider essential today—is simply unaffordable for these families. This gap often leads to low confidence, poor performance, and eventually, children dropping out of school.

This is where afterschool programs make a critical difference.

CIM Trust is currently supporting 88 children through structured afterschool programs that provide the academic and emotional support they need to stay on track. But there are many more children who are still struggling—and the need continues to grow.

Afterschool support creates a safe and consistent learning environment where children can:

More importantly, it equips them with skills that can transform their future.

English and computer education are at the heart of this effort.

English is no longer just a subject—it is a gateway to higher education and better job opportunities. Without it, even capable students find themselves at a disadvantage.

Similarly, basic computer skills are essential in today’s world. From applying to colleges to entering the workforce, digital literacy is no longer optional.

By focusing on these areas, we are not just helping children pass exams—we are preparing them to become employable, confident, and ready for higher studies in English-medium colleges.

But this support system cannot grow without help.
